Christian Benteke says that he does not understand why manager Jurgen Klopp ignores him.
The Belgian international was brought to the club by former boss Brendan Rodgers. However, he struggled in his first few months under the Irishman and Benteke has never really found his feet at Liverpool. The situation has become only worse after the arrival of Klopp in the middle of the campaign. Results were initially good under the German, but Liverpool’s inconsistency sees them near the bottom half of the table.
Just when it seemed that they were rising in the table, a 3-2 defeat against Southampton brought an end to the three match winning run. Benteke has started in only five out of the last 16 matches for the club. He was once again on the bench for the game against Southampton. After coming on for Daniel Sturridge in the 70th minute, the former Aston Villa man was guilty of missing a clear cut chance that would have given Liverpool at least a point from the game.Benteke has scored only once in the last 10 matches for the club. Benteke stated that he expected to get more minutes on the pitch following the arrival of Klopp but he is now linked with a summer move away from the club.
“In January I didn’t want to leave and it’s still my desire to succeed at Liverpool.” he told the CityCard Employee benefits Manchester website. “We’ll see at the end of the season. Some team-mates said that I was lucky with the arrival of Klopp because I certainly would play. When your coach says he wanted to take you to Dortmund and a little later you sit at the same club and he ignores you it is hard to understand,” said Benteke. In total, the striker has managed only eight goals in 33 appearances for the club.
