Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes that his team needs to improve their defending if they want to challenge for the title.
Indeed Liverpool has been criticized for their poor defending in the match against Bournemouth and their goalkeeper Loris Karius was the most targeted by critics.
However, the manager believes that it is unfair to blame the goalkeeper alone and that the whole team needs to shoulder the criticisms. He said that the players need to defend better as a team and not leave the defending to the defenders and goalkeepers alone.
Jurgen Klopp said that Liverpool does not have any problem for creating chances and scoring goals and it is at the back that they need improvement. He said that there is a problem in the team if the opposition players are allowed all the time in the world to make a pass or to shoot at goal.
He agrees that there have been some problems in the match against Bournemouth, but he does not believe that it is the goalkeeper mistakes alone. He said that it is the responsibility of the team to put pressure on the opposing team and not allow the players to shoot at goals. He said that this urgency was not present in the game against Bournemouth and this is what they will need to work on at the training ground.
Jurgen Klopp said that the players would need to learn to be consistent and not to lose their focus during a match. He said that since the beginning of the season Liverpool has been defending well, and it is only in the last couple of games that they appear vulnerable.
He said that he would work with the players on the training pitch to make sure that they do not repeat such a performance again.
